Learn Three Techniques/Paint a Shawl

Sunday, OCTOBER 8 / 1 PM to 4 PM

Class Description:

Using the studio’s thermofax screens, stencils and found objects for printing you will learn about silkscreen printing, stenciling and stamping on silk. We will supply the paint and the blank silk shawl. Just show up and have some fun in this lovely Sunday afternoon three-hour class! Limited to 5 students but this class will be offered again after the holidays.

Cost per person: $120

50% of your payment is a non-refundable deposit. If you are unable to attend the class after registering, 50% of your payment will be refunded.

STUDENT SUPPLY LIST

Students should bring all of the following with the to the workshop:

  • 1 yard solid white cotton or linen sateen
  • 1 yard solid black cotton or cotton sateen
  • Fat quarter or 1/2 yard pieces:
  • solid color and/or hand-dyed cotton
  • light-weight linen or canvas (optional)
  • silk taffeta, dupionni, or chiffon (also optional)

Note:

white print cloth will be available for sale by the yard during class

OTHER SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED

  • painting apron, shirt or smock
  • ball head or silk pins
  • latex gloves
  • roll of paper towels
  • 2-3 spray bottles for water or paint (used for painting backgrounds)
  • small sea sponges or house hold sponges
  • small mixing tray (5’ x 7’ x 1’) or just a flat plastic lid

What you DON’T have to bring!

Teacher will supply these items:

  • squeegees
  • transparent, opaque and metallic textile paints
  • discharge paste (and vingar for fixing)
  • use of some of teachers thermofax screens, string wrapped objects, found objects and pre-cut stencils
